Status of 2019 Corn and Soybean Crops

11/04/2019

The USDA Crop Progress Report released November 4th documented progress in both corn and soybeans after a slow start to planting that is expected to negatively impact yields as documented in the September WASDE Report. Current crop condition for both soybeans and corn have improved in recent weeks compared to the 2018 harvest as tabulated below. High topsoil moisture levels are evident in comparison with the corresponding week in 2018.

The deficit in harvesting is evident in that only 50 percent of the corn crop has been harvested compared to 75 percent by the corresponding week in 2018. This past week farmers harvested 11 percent of the corn crop despite inclement weather.

Three-quarters of the soybean crop has been harvested compared to 87 percent in 2018. This week 13 percent of the soybean crop was harvested.

CHICK-NEWS and EGG-NEWS will report on the progress of the two major crops as monitored by the USDA through the end of the 2019 harvest.
