FDA to Extend Prescription Requirements to Injectable Livestock Antibiotics

11/21/2019

The FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine has initiated a two-year phase-in period placing all injectable antibiotics on veterinary prescription. Tylosin, penicillin and tetracyclines will no longer be available over-the-counter. Regulations will soon be posted in the Federal Register consistent with the FDA 5-year plan placing all antibiotics under veterinary supervision with full implementation by 2023, although significant compliance will be accomplished by 2021.
