“Operation Beef Bandit” came to a successful conclusion on September 13th with the apprehension of four individuals responsible for a series of thefts of meat and seafood from trailers parked at service areas on the New Jersey Turnpike. It is alleged that the four individuals were responsible for a series of thefts over the past three years with individual robberies involving up to $350,000 in food products. The midnight apprehension involved a foot and highway chase leading to the arrest of the four perpetrators.
It is hoped that authorities will follow up on the disposal of stolen meat products and identify the fences and ultimate retailers of purloined food and take appropriate action since the “beef bandits” were only the origin of a larcenous distribution chain.
